I thought this event was more popular in OOT. These young nerds could be future OOTers!

Final 2..

Unless they got hold of the "championship" list.

yea this show is way overproduced. liked it way better when it was on in the afternoon - i had to keep switching off for the stupid interviews/human interest stories. yes, all these kids are eccentric geniuses who are also brilliant in many other areas.

and yeah the 2006 thread had way more participation.

also, as for the bee, i'm 90% sure the final word was used in the last ten years as a word - and these kids are crazy enough to go over those tapes.

Yeah, kinda funny with Stewart Scott there at the end - he doesn't interview many intellectuals in his line of work.

I don't know why, if it was overproduced or what, but the drama and suspense just didn't seem to be there this time. I found myself f-fwding through most of it.

Brutal, the Canadian kid got the mad tough words. He got screwed out of the championship.

Man, these kids are nerdy, though.

The best part was the end where the kid was putting down spelling bees "it's just memorization" and talking about how great math was. Another Sklansky in the making.

I think the format is terribly flawed. Unlike say the geography bee where contestants have to answer the same questions, this luck-of-the-draw thing is a joke.

With so many incredibly difficult words during the preliminary rounds I find it inconceivable that the "championship" words could contain "yosenabe" and "serrafine"- two words that I have not only heard of but know how to spell. Of course the Canadian kid gets "coryza" (rigged?).

And did I really hear Stuart Scott use the word "likeability" incorrectly while interviewing the winner? Hilarious. I would have loved to see the kid ask Stuart if he could use the word in a sentence.

Agree with general sentiment of the thread. Overproduced, waste of Mike and Mike, don't get Scott near smart kids, etc. And ya, the kids were nerdier this year.
