I'm not one to bash on P5's too much, but I found this just too funny.

This thread http://www.pocketfives.com/4DB181A0-...5A05E5F89.aspx

talking about a river call mjorgenson made against Gus Hansen with 98 on a 984JT board, provokes this post:

disclaimer: I realize I'm not at this level...

Question: If Menlo thinks he's ahead, why not just reraise Gus all in on the river instead of just calling? I'm sure there's a good reason, I just don't know it yet....

[/ QUOTE ]

That is indeed the dumbest thing I have ever read. The obvious, most correct play here is to minraise Gus' bluff to induce the rebluff all-in, which you can safely call with your two pair on a four-to-straight board.

Stinger you missed Menlo's reply in that thread, its equally great:

I'm not gonna go into detail about why I made this call cuz I dont really feel like it. But to the guy who is saying this call is "-ev over the long run" I am not concerned with the long run, I am concerned with this hand right now, the only thing that matter is whether or not he has it this time.

[/ QUOTE ]
This is actually right he just phrased it poorly. It might be -EV to call this river everytime, but due to gameflow, timing tells, etc. in this specific spot it could be +EV.

[/ QUOTE ]

When you make a decision you factor in everything. In this "specific" situation, the call is either +EV in the longrun or it isn't.

obv he should have put Gus to a decision for all his chips on the river.

Which means it's 50/50 anyway and therefore a good call w/pot odds. lol
