Default small pairs in early levels

whats the accepted strategy for playing middle and low pairs in position behind a raise during early levels?

i typically try to limp them in early levels and stay away from putting in money behind raises...

For me it depends on the size of the raise, I really don't like to call more than 4x the BB with any pair smaller than JJ. But I don't put a whole lot of value in doubling early since I play 5.50's and my opponents r very exploitable at later levels. generally though I will call any raise 4x BB or less in the first 3 levels or so as long as the pot won't be played out HU. HU I don't feel that the implied odds of hitting my set are always there.

why are they so exploitable? just by shoving when you get shortstacked (10ish BBs?)

I don't call raises early with 99 or less, even in position. Maybe I'm a nit, but like I said in the twin thread to this, this gets costly and I think people tend to overestimate their implied odds if they hit their set.

what do u mean when u talk about the early levels ? bb 40 ?
in early position i will fold them 100% in late position i will try to over limp them if possible and maybe call a min raise or a 3xraise if there is some dead money in the pot aswell (limpers which folded to the raise) but the most important thing is that u really have to have set value which means that the raiser has atleast 1300 chips or more to make it possible to double up if u flop your set. but in the long run playing small pps is really spewing chips and in turbo sngs your chips are very valuable.
