Alot of what you posted I disagree with, The Doors and Michael Jackson back in the day ruled.

As for my nominee,

The Dave Matthews Band

HORRIBLE music, all sounds the f'ing same, yet during my college days they were a big "hit" band. Gag me.

I agree both on the Doors not deserving all the hate and on The Dave Matthews Band being decidedly uninteresting.

I nominate Metallica as overrated.. Basically a pop band who get held up as some sort of heavy rock demi-gods.

[/ QUOTE ]
Metallica may be overrated (especially today). But they are far from a "pop" band. They were one of the original names in thrash metal and, even today, are a very heavy band. Nothing "pop" about them.

im not saying that dylan is not a lyrical genius but i think on a whole tom waits back catalogue vs his= tom waits is better. dylan had some great records some mediocre records and some crappy ones. i also dont think he is dated either, im 19 and have been listening to dylan for years and still get good things from his music

[/ QUOTE ]Not really a fair comparison since Dylan has over a dozen more albums than Tom Waits.

his 2 new release songs for his new cd have gotten trashed by every1 even the ppl who only listen to mainstream

And I'd like to nominate Coldplay, for the most horrible overrated band of all time. I love the Royksopp remix of Clocks, but besides that everything else is unbearable.

[/ QUOTE ]

Plus Radiohead.

i think dylan was overrated but not by that much.

[/ QUOTE ]

Jimi Hendrix considered Dylan his biggest influence and one of the greatest songwriters of all time. That's good enough for me.

It has been said that ANYBODY can sing a Dylan song better than Dylan. Genius songwriter, yes, but possibly one of the worst singers ever to become a major musician.

But no, he's not overrated.
