I agree with all except for the satellite dish install.

*ahem* it's not a standard tip

Why would you tip the satellite guy and not the plumber. I don't tip for installations/repairs. I'm already paying out my ass for the service.

[censored] that. I make a [censored] of money now, I consider myself fortunate. If people who are decent and hardworking are serving your luckyass in some way, you should be generous. Obviously, if theyre a dick, than forget it. But in general, I like to tip. A lot of those people are good, decent, hard working people. They were not as fortunate to be born as smart or be raised in a cultivating environment to make as much as some of us do.

Its probably undeserved at times, but so are a lot of the fat paychecks some of us are getting.

edit: Im talking about generousity towards people who are decent and work hard. Its not too hard to figure out that some are doing all right with their own business. Those are the ones who dont deserve [censored], cuz they spend the majority of their time figuring out ways to [censored] people over. Im just talking about people who just try to do their job and be courteous to random folk who are for the most part, better off than them.

[/ QUOTE ]

You should tip based on the quality of the service performed, and whether or not it is customary to tip a given service provider in the first place. You don't tip based solely on your guilt about whether or not you truly deserve your own income. That's what charity is for.

No one tips gas station attendants. I used to give them a buck and they would look at me weird.

vyse,

that you think my above post was meant to be funny says something about your lack of reading comprehension. you say you live in a good college town. maybe you should go get some education while you're there.

people only pump your gas in new jersey and oregon afaik. i have never had anyone pump my gas, and i know that the reason oregon has pumping is because it is mandated by a backwards-as-[censored]-law, which is the explanation for most of the reasons why oregon is so weird.
