I read somewhere that the numbers for a 99 cent internet download are:

RIAA - 79c
Credit card company - 5c
Artist - 15c

In 20 years people are going to look back and be completely befuddled by the success of Radiohead.

I mean, they've got some great stuff, don't get me wrong. But I've always found the universal consent that they're the greatest and most important band of our time a bit unsettling. I know it's blasphemy to say, but to my ear they don't have a single album that isn't all over the charts from one song to the next, and sometimes within the one song. I'm sure that sort of eclectic sound accounts for their success to an extent, but it also stops their albums from resonating, in my marginalised opinion.

This album's done nothing to change my view (admittedly after only two listens).

So I've listened to it 2.5 times now. It's fine, but it hasn't grabbed me yet in the way I would like it to. There are songs that seem to start out very promisingly - Bodysnatchers, Nude, Reckoner - but then go somewhere that doesn't quite do it for me as much. There's no one song that I really truly love, at least not yet, and all of their previous albums had something that got me right away. I think one thing that's missing is the sort of through the roof, melodramatic melancholia that usually shows up - Exit Music, Motion Picture Soundtrack, Pyramid Song, etc. I eat that [censored] up.

If they are getting 10 bucks a pop on average, and it goes straight to the band 100%...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that WAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY more than the actual band would get if the physical CD sold for like 17-18 bucks?

[/ QUOTE ]

Its likely that it will end up about equal in the end.

When Price left his label he sold significantly less albums, perhaps only 15% of his former sales (just a stab in the dark). But he has gone on record (pun intended) saying he makes more money now selling fewer records.

This is how those drunk bicycle cabs work. People end up overpaying because they feel bad for the poor cyclist who ends up making more than what he could if he set a rate.

question - anyone know if there is album artwork to go with the download? iTunes feels naked without an image.

[/ QUOTE ]
www.rateyourmusic.com is where I get all my album artwork. There are usually pretty big images too, if you're a resolution nit like me.

A simple GIS usually works too though fwiw.

Stolen from Pitchfork.
