Apple river is the "big spot" in the midwest that I'm aware of. It's something like 6 hours away from where I live, but people regularly make the trip to tube there even though we have a decent river 10 min away. It's been a few years since I've been there, but they still have like a shuttle bus to bring tubers around right? Are there many other rivers in the US that have such services?

Brag, going out tubing for the first time of the year in less then 3 hours, skunk river here I come

there's the root river too that people tube on. i never floated that one but floated the apple river several times. lots of crazy [censored] on those trips, one year some dude a few camp sites down got stabbed. good times.

The Salt River. Anymore, It is nasty with garbage and if it is running fast, extremely dangerous in the rapids( shallow and rocky).

This is a summer tradition in Texas. Everyone goes to New Braunfuels for the Guadalupe and Comal river. Rent a tube for everyone, and rent an extra tube for the cooler. Always a fun trip.

That is one of the most horribly depressing photos I have ever seen.

We'd do this on the Muskegon River in Big Rapids, Mi. Buddies of mine went to Ferris St., and we'd get fired up talking about how we were going to tube, get all drunked up, and swing from the 5-7 rope swings that lined the river. Then we'd get there, float down the river while our beer got warm, and get our skin peeled off by the ropes.

It sounded like a lot more fun than it was for us. We didn't have the numbers, such as what's depicted in the pictures in this thread. However, that could be due to us tubing in Big Rapids, Mi., perhaps the most misnamed city ever.

float trips rock. if you cant get tail on a float trip, you will never get any. we go on the blackjack, or the hoozaw (sp??) at least once a summer.

tip:

buy 2 5 gallon buckets and a couple lengths of rope at homedepot, put all your valueables in one bucket, and all your beer and ice in the other, tie to your inner tube.
