Re: johnny hughes answer this
I gotta go with the dude above.
If he is making up stories, then you would expect him to research it enough to get it correct as EVERY report contradicts what he wrote. Either way i know good TV is not real and it entertains me. |

Re: johnny hughes answer this
Not trying to EXPOSE anything here. I just want to know more about the guy.
His stories about the old days are fun to read. If I can find a few who knew him from the old poker days I think I could hear a few more interesting road warrior things. Thats all. I feel it is also not a waist of my time. He may have played against some of my wifes uncles back in the DAY. I have e-mails out to them to see if they recall playing with him here in Las Vegas or in the San Francisco area. |

[ QUOTE ] Ray, do you think Johnny is FOS? [/ QUOTE ] you decide --- In one post the OP said "Stu died in a hotel on freemont with $58 bucks in his pocket" or something close to that... When in fact Stu died in a porn movie hotel on Las Vegas BLVD. (was shut down a few months ago) with $800 in his pocket. This is written in every obituary notice and all the books about Stu "The Kid" Unger. [/ QUOTE ] I don't want to decide. That's why I asked Ray since he would have a better idea than I do on this matter. |

Re: johnny hughes answer this
johhny post some more. i believe you were around and from texas as you knew the right names to drop and have some of the stories right. so welcome here and please tell stories of the past. our posters and readers love them as its an insight to the good old days that are long gone. the days when gamblers were unsavory characters with lots of stories under their belts of things done on the road to make a living.
those games you played in were still de cent sized games in those years and that money bought alot more than now. it took one hella good player and money man to hold onto any sum for longer than a week as something was always happenning to con a person from their cash. not many people have heard of goodie. i played hundreds of times with him. he primarily was a terrific player but played extremely tight with little action. but played oh so good when he was in there. not much of a threat though. except when he had a few drinks. then he became the most fearsome player of all time. not only did he still play well but did all sorts of things to you in the pots. no one like to play with goodie when he had a few drinks. believe you me he could play. but unfortunetly for him, he didnt stop and after a few more his game went sour. so ulimately drinking not only cost him big money but probably also was one of the reasons he died, but thats a guess on my part. goodie was from somewhere back in tennesee or someplace not texas but very could have run a game there as then all players traveled and did what they could to survive. |

Re: johnny hughes answer this
except bill didnt play as well as goodie and would lose everything he had everytime he got drunk. but you are right he did play great when he had enough to drink to get the nerve to push his money around. there are a few more that fit into that category.

but you are right he did play great when he had enough to drink to get the nerve to push his money around. there are a few more that fit into that category. [/ QUOTE ] Mike Lainge? Pretty good tournament player when he's wasted. I saw him final table a $1,000 (I believe) event at the Orleans one time. When he busted 4th or 5th, he had to have 2 people help him up and take him over to get his money. Of course Avner Levy was one of those people, probably cause the money to be collected was his! Some may remember a couple years ago Mike being the chipleader of the WSOP ME after day one. During day two, he got wasted and lost most of his chips in just a few hours. He went all-in and stood up saying he needed running 10's to stay alive......good stuff. |
