[/ QUOTE ] I think you've seen very little of Beckham. Everyone plays poorly when they put on an England shirt but when he was at United Beckham was invaluable. People fail to appreciate how much work he put in for the team. He tracks back better than any wide player I've ever seen and his work-rate was immense.

The game is just so much more of an institution over there, it doesn't even compare to anywhere in America.

WOW, it's really interesting to read Americans talk about Beckham. I'm a UK based Manchester United fan (yes there are a few of us within driving distance of Manchester!) and I've been watching them for 15 years and I've seen dozens of Beckham games and I can't believe people when they saw he was overrated, utter [censored]!
Beckham took the English game by storm, you don't score from the half-way line by accident, and score numerous 30 yard shots and freekicks by fluke either. Beckham isn't as skilled as many players but for the role he plays he is simply the best. He pratically dragged England single handed into the 2002 Worlc Cup, he FK's and assists played a massive part of Man Utd's many Premiership trophy wins and Real Madrid last season were playing terrible when the new Coach dropped Beckham once he decided he was going to play for Galaxy next season. once he was introduced back into the team his work rate reinvigorated the team and they went on to being champions for the first time in 4 years. Beckham = Hardest working player on the pitch, best Free Kick taker in the world, best passer in the world, decent number of goals from midfielder per season. Can't ask for too much more than that, he isn't no Cristiano Ronaldo for skills and pace but he was never meant to be. I <3 Becks.
