Default Jason Bay

Watching the Astros-Pirates series, I've been very impressed with Jason Bay. I saw him at the HR derby last year and he was unimpressive to say the least. This guy looks like a hell of a ballplayer though. His 2005 stats are solid. 40 doubles, 30 homers, 100 ribbies, .300, 20 bags. If I didn't know any better, I'd say he looks like an All-American poster boy for baseball. Seems to have a good attitude, and play the game right. Example is knocking over Munson last night to score the winning run.

2005 stats:
G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB
SO BA OBP SLG TB SH SF IBB HBP GDP

162 599 110 183 44 6 32 101 21 1 95 142 .306 .402 .559 335 0 7 9 6 12

Thoughts? Is there anything I'm leaving out?

He's Canadian.

Good stats across the board.

Which is what "if I didn't know any better" was supposed to imply.

The problem with Jay Bay is that he's very streaky. He's hit 9 humers over the last 9 games and has homered in each of the last 5. However, at the start of May, he was only batting around 250.

He needs to become more consistant, but I figure he'll be gone after next season anyways.

His numbers this year are even better than last year, and he was one of the best players in the league last year. He is incredibly good.

Why does he have to be consistant if his OBP is over .430 and slugging over .600?

P.S. - His April numbers were still very good.

For a team that is 16-33, your star needs to be consistant. He was in a huge slump up until about 2 weeks ago.

So he's not solid then?

Jack, by "one of the best players in baseball", where do you rank him? Top 30? List specific players that he's ranked ahead of.
