Getting 2+2 books rebound?

I'm sorry if this issue has been discussed before. I tried a search with no luck, some good links would be apreciated.

My copy of SSH from the original printing is a bit weathered. The binding is more or less intact but the cover has fallen off. What are my best options for getting it rebound/recovered from those who have done this?

May I suggest Scotch tape? [img]/images/graemlins/smirk.gif[/img] Indeed, I brought a broken, paperback copy of My Sixty Memorable Games (B. Fischer, now out of print) to a book binder, and she said it was going to cost no less than $50 for a basic resewing and rebinding to hardback (like they do to library periodicals). I don't think a paperback cover can just be reattached so that it looks like it is new.

If you want more than a homemade, taped restoration it would just be cheaper to buy another copy.

I've seen a thread here on 2+2 a couple of months ago about someone who got it re-bound with a spiral back. Wasn't very expensive and looked practical.

Kinko's!!! It costs like $4 a book, just tell them to cut the spine off and spiral it.

I agree. I went into Kinko's on a slow afternoon and had the book done with a spiral spine for $5. It took just a few minutes for them to do it since they were not busy.

Since the OP said only that the cover had come off, rebinding it with a spiral back would seemingly weaken the physical integrity of the book just for the sake of reattaching the cover.

well the cover is in very bad shape so I don't even think it will be worth getting reattactched. I'm thinking the spiral idea sounds good, is the finished product still very usable?

Consequently, since the cover is shot regardless, why do you want to destroy the original binding by having it spiral bound?

The bad shape of the cover doesn't make a difference in getting it spiraled. At Kinko's they will put a plastic cover on it. Also, to answer your question, yes, the books look good after this is done.
