You should value bet in dry sidepots, but bluffing is pretty dumb.

My friends say they never bet into a dry sidepot. I think this is wrong.

In limit hold'em, it's usually best to pump the pot when you have an equity edge. That's what value betting is about. I see no reason to hang back unless you really believe there is an implied odds advantage where you'll be able to get even more in later rounds by sandbagging early.

Another good reason to pump it up early is that you'll tie opponents to a pot. If you have the edge, you want them hanging around.

One problem with inflating the pot size is that you will be allowing your opponents to make correct calls when normally they'd be making incorrect calls to chase you. However, if you have a large equity edge, you can give up those mistakes and still make money.

In a tournament, you shouldn't bet into the dry side pot unless you really have a hand you think will hold up against the all-in player. In a cash game it doesn't really matter, in my opinion.

Can you expound on this a little? I'd think that if your opponent is getting the right price to call you, you still have to bet because calling you for free is even better for them.
