Sometimes I cringe at the amount of information we supply to our opponents via these boards. Nonetheless, keep the discussion coming...

what does anyone think of JimThaJackal? i may have spelled his name wrong but that's pretty much it. I have like 8k hands on him and he's a big loser, super aggro. seems to love 3betting me. anyone tangle with him?

So often that info is nothing more useful than what we already know. When Mike 4-bet me without pushing I knew he had feck all and when I flat called the 4-bet he knew I had AA or KK. We didn't need to discuss it on the forum to realize that.

LT you're avatar is very distracting

I've caught myself several times staring and hoping for a nipple slip. I like blondes better, so I changed it.

I actually have him as a +3.73ptBB/100 over 12K hands. He is pretty tight. I haven't seen him very much lately.

How is Newbelf doing in your guys databases? I have him as an almost 5ptBB winner over about 18K hands. I've never seen a shortstacker play so profitably. He could be running hot but at only $20 per shot?

I think this is why a lot of the regs at FT are winning well without having hyper aggro games. All it would take would be for a few regs to start getting mega aggro and everyone else would adapt to a point where overall you have to play LAG to be a big winner. Think of it a little like crowd dynamics - just a few people can start a pretty big chant/riot.

[/ QUOTE ]

Interesting thought. I think I disagree a little tho. If the regs become extremely wild and aggro, wouldnt you want to tighten up and slowplay more instead of trying to run them over as well?

Again you just re-emphasize my point. As you say, if the regs start becoming overly aggro it's because they think they can exploit the other regs. So, if those other regs start to tighten up and slowplay it's the second level of adaptation because they think they can exploit the new aggro regs. Then the Aggro regs make more changes and they keep probing away at each other.

You can be sure of one thing though - when good regs start trying to break down other good regs games the overall aggression is probably only going to go up in the long run and assuming both regs are equally good at adapting then nobody gains.

At any level you want to avoid getting into pots w/ good players and try to make your money against the bad ones. Im not saying to lay down to the good players and let them run you over, but like you said, just dont go out of your way trying to 5th level a good reg when the guy next to you will stack off with top pair.

This is a great discussion and I think the games will constantly be evolving. Back before the UIGEA I was playing on Party Poker. My stats were 30.73/5.21/1.23 over 71k hands and I was up $20.8k making 8.26 ptbb/100!!!

You couldn't play that way over the past year and not lose an awful lot of money. (Anything is possible, but if I see an opponent with those stats now, donk comes to mind). On party you could limp almost any hand in any position, get to see the flop since nobody was very agressive preflop unless it was somebody playing 70/50, and then just get paid when you flop something big. I was 2 tabling 1/2 NL and making about $50 an hour, and quit my job.

I came over to FTP after Party stopped accepting our business, and in the first few months while not employed, I'm finding it impossible to win! I couldn't get away with limping out of position any more. The games got tighter, and position raises became commonplace. After three months of frustration breakeven poker with huge downswings to constantly battle back from, I knew I had to adapt my game. Needed to really tighten up while focusing on position and play more tables if I wanted any chance to survive. Now I've worked my way back to +3ptbb/100 still playing a somewhat passive and unorthodox 18/4 style, but it obviously won't be the last time I make changes to my game. I think most of us who take the game seriously are smart enough to look at our results and make adjustments if we think the games are becoming too difficult to beat.

Obviously I don't play anywhere close to the style of the average 2+2er, but I'm not sure I want to play like everyone else. I think realizing what your opponents are doing and trying to counter that in some way is far more important.

Anyway, a lot of valid points are being made in this thread.

Just for fun, a throwback to the great days of party where guys like this dumped off at least a grand a day:
