It sure did. They counted the run. The runner crossed home about 2 1/2 to 3 seconds before the throw from the CF reached 1st base for the out. There was some question in the booth (both Barry Larkin and Orel Hershiser didn't know the rule, Larkin said he thought the run wouldn't count). An ESPN sideline reporter spoke to the NCAA rules guru in the stands (off camera, off mike) and the rules guy said the call was correct.

This thread is funny.

It's also interesting to note that, except at first, if you tag someone instead of touching the bag where there'd be a force out, a run would count if it crosses.

I mention this because apparently it's really hard to understand. My partner ejected a coach today after he called me a "16 year old that shouldn't even be able to ump tee-ball" after I made this call. This was the first inning and the first call I'd actually made, other than obvious stuff.

Quite funny.

That's why MLB put this exact example in their rulebook, to remove the confusion!
