Default Jury Nullification

Sorry to make two OPs in a row, but I saw this mentioned in the other thread and

A) I've never seen it discussed here
and
B) If people were aware of it, it would shift the balance of power away from the corporate/government complex back into the hands of ordinary people.

Some great American said that the jury trial is the only thing between us and tyranny.

I believe ignorance is the most powerful tool of the monied elite.

To give this thread a bit o substance:

In what ways could people be made aware of jury nullification?

Put it in a movie or tv show.

1. Make pamphlets.
2. Distribute at courthouse.
3. Try not to get arrested.

I made that pamphlet years ago when I was a big L Libertarian.

Still cracks me up when internet dbags who know nothing about me tell me I don't do anything "for the cause."

TYVM for that link Borodog. The whole thing was very eloquently stated. Not sure if I'll have occasion to use it in the near future, but I'll make sure to show it to as many people as I can.

There's probably only one thing I really disagree with in that pamphlet these days; that jury duty is actually a "duty"; it isn't. It's forced servitude, i.e. slavery. But I still think that if you are selected you should serve, for all the reasons stated therein. People simply cannot get fair trials anymore, and if you have the opportunity to do some tiny small thing about it, you should.

borodog,

While I agree with your point. I think that is a battle this pamphlet rightfully disregarded as to make sure to get the point across.

It's sad that so many people are ignorant of this great power.

I think you should put an asterisk next to slavery, as it is not real slavery. You are not out there picking cotton all day. You are not getting paid nothing. You will not get shot if you try to get out of it.

Yes, it is.

Funny, I didn't know picking cotton was the only thing you could be coerced into doing.

Cotton picking slaves got paid in food, shelter, and clothing. Was it then not slavery?

[ QUOTE ]

You could be. If you refuse, and the judge imposes punishment on you, and you resist that punishment, you could get shot.
