if greed is what causes people to try to get as much money as possible, then the enron guys were not being greedy. their illegal actions were very -ev, and they're paying for it now. if they were greedy, they wouldn't have made such -ev moves.

I believe instead of "greed is good" it should be "hard work is good, greed is bad".

If you watched the Enron documentry, you would agree with me.

[/ QUOTE ]

Theif --> Greedy =/= Greedy --> Thief

Greed isn't bad just like money isn't bad. There are plenty of honest, hard working people that many consider greedy.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just because people consider them greedy doesn't mean they actually are. Part of the definition of "greed" is "excessive," so greed is always going to be bad because it's always excessive. The problem is that "excessive" is a very subjective thing, so while one person will say X behavior is greedy, another will disagree.

Greed could probably be defined as the desire to make -EV decisions that result in short-term gains. So, the Enron people are great examples of greed, because their short-term desire for money made them obvlivious to the actual total EV of their situation.
