Default Won entry in to casino tourney - Need to learn hold em in a day

My friend's wife won a free entry into a hold em tourney (NL I'm assuming) at a local casino. She has no idea how to play hold em. What sites would you recommended that she read in order to get a very raw understanding of the game so she doesn't get run over? Thanks.

Maybe you could explain the structure of the game and then let her read some chapters from Super/System? Let us know how she did!

when is the tourney? how much time does she have? If she barely even knows the rules the "Getting started in Hold'em" by Ed Miller is the place to start (make sure she skips the limit section if it is a NL tourney). If she's played a little before or after she finished Miller's book tell her to move on to Harrington on Hold'em. Buying these books is more than worth the investment.

You guys are all wet.

The Kill Phil basic strategy is just what you're looking for. It can take a total beginner and give them a sluggers chance in a NL hold'em tourny.

If she has only one day, you should loan her your most basic hold'em book. It's not enough time to navigate the internet (unless someone here knows a specific webpage that has a good primer). Learning tourney strategy is impossible in one day, so she is still probably dead money unless she gets very lucky.

I don't think 1 day is enough for Kill Phil. Also, Kill Phil assumes knowledge of Holdem, so she needs that first.

Tourney is next Tuesday. The issue I see is that she probably won't ever play poker after this, so she will probably refuse to read a book. I remember reading an article about some beginner that did decent just playing top hands and then pushing some certain % of top hands when the blinds were high. I just dont't remember what the range was or how the style was when the blinds were low. Anyone know what I'm referring to?
