River: 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (7.25BB, 2 players) BB bets, Hero ?? I think you can pretty much figure what happened. I guess my question is how do you protect your hand against a tight aggressive player with plenty of draws out there. Looking back I should have raised on the flop as well but I don't think it would change the situation. I guess I wanted him in the hand and get the most out of this which is such stupid play obvivously. Could I have gotten a fold out of this? I guess the other question is should I fold or call and face the medicine? Obviously one of the weakness in my play is not folding enough when losing but if I fold all the time I am too weak according to everyone. Thanks |

In small pots, you need to worry less about protecting your hand and more about getting the most money when you're ahead. You're probably ahead here, so raise the flop and turn for value. Just call the river.

looks good just call the river. [/ QUOTE ] See that is the problem with me right now. Everyone else thinks it looks good but I think I am stupid for losing this hand. |

flop raise or call is fine. mix this up.
turn is obv standard river we cant possibly raise here because a 5 is within his range and that would mean being taken to 3town nh |

[/ QUOTE ] uuuhhh - you realize that cards are random and that you don't control them hand is standard ... is the guy is tight passive and you have a really really really good read - then, you can almost fold the river |

What Bulletproof said. mix it up between raising for VALUE the flop or waiting til the turn.
this hand is fine and mostly standard (not that thats a problem....this is the micros after all) but this hand could have gotten interesting if the turn was more scary. eg club or 9. |

Re: $1/2 - AK with TPTK with draws out there - how to protect hand?
Preflop good, flop is pretty even with waiting to turn or raising in this small pot. Turn is good, your waiting worked, you get to raise.
River is a call. Maybe he had A5 or set or hit two pair somewhere along the line. That donk is so weird it's a big hand or either a bluff on a potential scare card or maybe even AT+ often enough so I call. Notice though that the straight draw is not what you are worried about at all on the flop. If he's a TAG I wouldn't expect him to call an UTG raise for a HU pot too often with 65 or 54 off-suit, maybe suited ones if feeling lucky but certainly not off-suit(?). The odds are that your single opponent doesn't have the flush draw either. Hence, you should also bet the river if checked to and give credit to a c/r and only call that. |

Can't protect this hand to a donk. You try to go over the top once which you did and you have to call the donk on the river again.
