Default Blind battle, found top pair on the turn

Villian is aggressive and cally. Just call down or raise this?

I would just call. But maybe since its a BvB its closer to a raise.

BTW If i decided to raise I would wait for the river and pop a brick. This way I can easily get away from a 3-bet and villain gets better odds to call with his 2nd pair.

I think there is a big range which you are in front of so I think you can raise for value. He could checkraise with any pair on the flop and after he has checkraised he is almost mandatory to bet again. We did hit our card so make him pay.

A less variance strategy is to calldown but we don't want him to hit a gutshot for free or any other wondercard. If we get 3bet I think we can find a fold if he is cally as you describe.

Dude, I NEED to start doing this more. River three-bets make me fold, whereas turn three-bets don't make me fold enough. This is a very good point.

instinctively I thought call because villain can have lots of straights/flushes/2pairs and I wouldn't feel comfortable folding to a 3bet

I did a bit of stoving which agrees with calling, but it's hard to come up with a hand range for villain here

Board: 6h 7h 9s Qh

..........equity
Hand 0: 34.80% { QdJc }
Hand 1: 65.20% { Kh5h, Kh4h, Q9s, J9s, Jh8h, Jh5h, Jh4h, T8s+, Th5h, 94s+, 85s+, 75s+, 6c5c, Q9o, J9o, T8o+, 97o+, 87o, 85o, 76o }

note that stuff like 94s+ means 94s to 98s

vs a wider range

Board: 6h 7h 9s Qh

...........equity
Hand 0: 47.769% { QdJc }
Hand 1: 52.231% { Kh5h, Kh4h, Q9s-Q6s, J9s, Jh8h, J7s-J6s, Jh5h, Jh4h, T6s+, Th5h, 94s+, 85s+, 75s+, 6c5c, Q9o-Q6o, J9o-J6o, T6o+, 95o+, 85o+, 76o }

so yah, looks like a call

I like oink's idea of raising a brick river

Given that you don't feel comfortable raising this turn card (and I don't blame you) and presuming that you were planning on giving up unimproved on the turn (folding on any non Q/J/T), your flop peel is questionable. Yes, it sucks folding knowing that you sometimes have the "best hand" but if you don't plan to get to showdown very often and you will frequently (say 20-25% of the time) lose even when you do get to showdown, you just don't have the odds to peel and try to hit your tainted outs.

I would call the turn and raise a safe river card.

I just call that particular Q. Might be worth thinking about raising a blank river. But I'm cool with a calldown in this spot.

I'd raise a Q of horseshoes on the turn, though, given your read. And I'd probably call down a 3-bet. Though I wouldn't like it much.

I think sweetjazz makes a god point about the flop peel. It is pretty marginal on that particular board only getting 7:1
