Call or fold when confused

If someone pushes all in and you are sitting there scratching your head completely befuddled on the line this guy took; are you more willing to call or fold? When I come into situations like this I tend to fold, but I dont know if you are supposed to call or fold here. I have heard arguments for both but I would like to know what some 2+2ers thoughts are.

*Im assuming you have a real hand not just A high or 3rd pair trying to pick off a bluff.

This question is way too general. Until you know a lot more about odds, position, reads, it would be best to fold in this situation if you do not have a monster hand.

Too general. There are no "these situations". Situations are always more specific that that and require differing actions.

If you are truly confused, i.e., you have no clue what's going on, you fold.

If you are thinking clearly and after reviewing the situation you come to the rational conclusion, 'this bet makes no sense', then lean towards calling.

Go with your gut.

I had this happen last night. I had TPWK, and Villian pushed on the River. Normally I'd have called, but Villian was a pretty good player and had trapped others earlier.

Of course after I folded, the SOB showed his 6-3o (i.e., total bluff).

In any event -- a situation like this can either be a crazy bluff, or someone who slow played a hand. No way to know for sure, so -- you pay your money and make your choices.

I usually fold to a confused line with a TPTK type hand.

In the past, I tried to pick off bluffs and they were not bluffing 85% of the time. It sealed a big leak in my game.

Keep in mind this is against unknown without reads.

I think if you are genuinely confused by a situation - and you are among players who you feel are better than you - folding is not a bad idea. An experienced player who senses you are confused will probably follow-up with a play when the next card hits that will exploit your confusion.

On the other hand....a raise would probably be a better option than a call. A seemingly confused player who raises can be downright scary.

What's great about poker is that you'll find yourself in new situations....but - at the same time - you'll also find yourself in similar (if not identical) situations over & over again, too....so when away from the table - think about the situation that confused you & work it out, post on 2+2, talk with poker playing friends, etc. The next time you encounter a similar scenario (and believe me - you will) - you will have already thought it through and will be able to make a less-confused decision.
