This is a great album, but man, I don't even think it's in my top-15 albums of the year. Music has been that good.

What do you think rates up there? Doesnt have to be a whole top 15 or anything but your top picks of the year?

Has anyone here every heard of Smoosh? I saw them open for the Eels like a year(or more?) ago, and they were amazing. They cover "This Modern Love" by Bloc Party also. Their Wikipedia page has their story(they are all very young)

Just saw State Radio at Terminal 5. Awesome show...the openers, Beautiful Girls were really good as well. State did a lot of their older songs and maybe like 2-3 off their newest CD. It was a really fun time and Pete Francis from Dispatch also came to do a couple songs. So basically 2/3 of Dispatch was there which was awesome. Lot of mosh pit action...overall a great show.

Meh, it's a bit early I guess, but I wanna post a list too dammit. Agree with nath that this was a really good year, so I ranked 20, and there are still a few albums I really really like that didn't make the cut.

4. Okkervil River - The Stage Names
5. Panda Bear - Person Pitch
6. UGK - Underground Kingz
7. Jens Lekman - Night Falls Over Kortedala
8. The Black Lips - Good Bad Not Evil
9. Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?
10. Battles - Mirrored
11. Justice - †
12. Jay-Z - American Gangster
13. The National - Boxer
14. LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
15. The Besnard Lakes - Are the Dark Horse
16. Nina Nastasia & Jim White - You Follow Me

Yeah, I could go on for 15 more and still have some really good albums I left off.

I need those UGK and Jay-Z albums. I haven't gotten much in the way of good rap this year. Kanye's was good, but not great- I put it at #25 or so. And I liked M.I.A.'S album but it didn't do enough for me compared to Arular to feel really strongly about it.

I feel like this year there were a ton of albums I "knew" were really good, but didn't compel me to listen to them. Caribou, Animal Collective, and Panda Bear (and even to a certain degree, Radiohead) were good examples (although to be fair, if I had a bunch of opiates around like I wish I did, I'd probably listen to Panda Bear all the time). The top six or seven on my list are the albums that, for at least some significant time this year, I could not put down.

Claunchy, if you liked After Dark, you should really check out the Glass Candy and Chromatics albums. In particular, Glass Candy's has been rocketing its way up my list.

I never really got into the Animal Collective album as much as everyone else for whatever reason. I only listened to it a few times though, so it could still grow on me. But I just loved the Panda Bear album as soon as I heard it.

Radiohead and Jay-Z are possibly both too low, but they're still pretty new to me, so I'm not as attached to them as I am the stuff in the top 10.

And I have Night Drive, though I've only heard it once. Haven't gotten the Glass Candy album yet, but I will.
