Dude, Harrah's didn't steal your money. Something bad happened to you, and you expect somehow its going to be solved magically. Unfortunately, sometimes you just take one on the chin, and it hurts real bad.

sorry, you left a large sum of cash in your room safe when the cage was available right downstairs and now you want to basically extort a settlement from the Rio by threatening to engineer a smear campaign in the media. you claim $32,000 is a lot of money for you and would be a lot of money for anybody - anybody except the Rio I guess who should just cut you a check and say sorry for your stupidity.

you don't deserve the money, you are the one who exhibited gross negligence toward your own money by failing to avail yourself of the appropriate security measures offered by the hotel.

[ QUOTE ]
The in-room safes are the most unsafe place in the entire room to put valuables as people know that they are there. All electronic safes where you "create" your own code have a very easy hard reset function that is the same few button presses for all models of the safe. I know for a fact that one model is simply hold down one of the 10 digits and enter a two digit code and poof unlocked.

I've seen this, at the Rio even. My sister changed the password on her safe, then promptly forgot it. She ended up calling around a bit and finally got the cage, they sent some suit up. He walked right to the safe, opened it in no more than three seconds, gave us a look like "stupid, stupid people", then turned around and walked out without saying a word. So the safes do have a "reset" or universal unlock code which might point to an inside job.

you guys think that the casino should write him a check? how does he prove the money was really there? if the hotel can tell who went into the room, then they should give you that information. this strongly looks like an inside job.

"On the other hand, can you,at least, use the lost $32K for Tax write-off? (In another word, will IRS "buy" this as gaming lost?) "

contact a cpa. i dont think its a gambling loss.

Yes, but I know from years of using tax cut, that there is a line on the 1040 long form asking if you have had any losses due to robberies and so on, that were not reinbursed by insurance.

This thread is an insult to the English language. More so than most threads on the web even. ... the principal matters and we should ...

PS Why the ragging on OP? Type something that long real fast and you commonly get all sorts of odd missed words, switched words, and typos. As if he doesn't know English--what!?!?

general streetsmarts rambling:
anytime i have a significant amount of money and im uncertain of my safety i divide my money.

walking around in the middle of the night this means that i have X% of the money im carrying in my wallet, Y% in my sock/shoe and Z% in the other sock/shoe, pocket of my jacket, between my passport, in my hat etc.

X means a small reasonable amount that wouldnt hurt if i lost it. this way if someone robs me they only steal the small amount that im carrying in my wallet while the majority of my stashed money (Y + Z) are safe.

in a hotel room this would mean leaving X% in the safe, Y% under the pillow/matress and Z% somewhere in my luggage. having 32k in a hotel room i would never allow the maid to "clean it up".
