Re: Describe some of the most exciting at-bats you\'ve witnessed.
[ QUOTE ]
On TV: I saw Alex Cora's 18-pitch at-bat a few years ago against then Cub Matt Clement. He fouled off like 14 pitches in a row, then went yard, and IIRC, it was Clement's last batter of the night. Even D. Baker thought he'd thrown too many pitches. [/ QUOTE ] Holy crap, I didn't know that it was that well known...as a Dodger fan, I was going to say that one as a semi-recent one. That was awesome. I was watching and thinking, "He needs to get a hit here to top off this sweet at-bat." He did that and more. As for all-time, it can be summed up with one sentence... "High fly ball into right field, she i-i-i-is... gone!!" Looks like I'm not the only one on either of these. |

Bronson Arroyo vs. Alex Rodriguez, which triggered the Varitek fight, I was at that game
also was there when Clemens didn't throw that closely at Manny , triggering the Pedro/Zimmer brawl |

Re: Describe some of the most exciting at-bats you\'ve witnessed.
Last season at the first game of the Mets/Yankees series at Shea I saw Billy Wagner strike out the side (game tied) in the top of the 9th and then David Wright hit a long double over Johnny Damon's head off of Mariano Rivera to win it in the bottom of the ninth. Those were probably the most exciting at-bats I've ever seen in person.
On a less cool note, I saw Dontrelle Willis hit a grand slam off of Jose Lima... lol. |

Glenallen Hill repeatedly steps out of the batter's box. The pitcher (?) gets tired of it and fires a strike while Glenallen is out of the box. Hill dives into the box and takes a wild swing at it and winds up with home run over the right field fence . [/ QUOTE ] FYP |

54.
This would have been 1961 or 1962. I saw Ted Williams play at Yankee Stadium in his last year, 1960. |

Re: Describe some of the most exciting at-bats you\'ve witnessed.
In his first at bat in the majors, Dae-sun Koo(crazy mets reliever) strikes out on three pitches on a Monday while standing with his heels on the edge of the batter's box - in a post game interview through a translator he says "next time I will be more aggressive." The follow Friday, against the Yankees, he is brought in a long relief situation and leads off by smashing a first pitch fastball off of Randy Johnson(lefty-lefty!) over Bernie's head in CF for a double. The crowd is going absolutely crazy, and doesn't have time to get back into their seats before Reyes lays down a bunt, Posada goes out to field it, Koo catches them napping and scores from 2nd in a bang bang play at home. Probably the most exciting/hilarious play I've ever witnessed in person.
Although probably a little more meaningful was Robin Ventura's walk off grand-slam single in the 14th inning of a playoff game vs. the braves. Shea was literally shaking with noise and my hearing was impaired for a few days afterward. My greatest moment as a Mets fan. James |
