Re: Describe some of the most exciting at-bats you\'ve witnessed.
I can't remember exactly, but the bases were loaded with C Ramon Hernandez of the Athletics at bat. Game 1 or 2 of the 2003 ALDS against Boston. I believe it was at home with the game tied in either the 9th inning or extras. He bunted for the win.
Edit: Game 1, and there were 2 outs. Edit2: 12th inning. |

Re: Describe some of the most exciting at-bats you\'ve witnessed.
prohorn - I actually had hair at the time. I was only 23.
I've seen some friends of mine in the highlights (I didn't even know they were at the game at the time, we found out later we were at the same game). One of them is very clearly wearing a Miami hockey jersey (that is Miami of Ohio of course). I didn't see myself in the highlights though. I didn't make it all the way down to the lowest section. Homer - that PHI/SD DH took place only about a month or so following the CIN/STL one. That night I was at a CIN/PIT DH that went until about 1:40am or so with similar rain difficulties. I remember seeing the final score for the PHI/SD game 1 on the scoreboard in Cincy and then seeing where it said under game 2 "1:35" and I had no idea if that meant they were actually going to start game 2 at 1:35am or if it they were going to use a day-off the next day to start it at 1:35pm or something. Well, I picked up 1210am out of Philly and sure enough they were playing game 2 beginning at 1:35am. I drove around that night listening to this epic. The sun was actually starting to rise over Philadelphia when the game ended. Philly tied it in the 8th and the announcers were joking about extra=innings but also sounded like they wanted to kill themselves. Harry Kalas or Andy Messer or whoever said at 3:00 or 3:30am or so that he thought there were actually more people in the ballpark in the MIDDLE of game 2 than there were at the beginning of game 2. I think it was on a Saturday. Drunken Philadelphians getting out of the bars saw the lights at the stadium and made their way down there. You could hear them in the crowd-mics, they were going nuts. We're getting pretty far off-topic here but whatever. It happens. My own personal best was broadcasting a Vero Beach Dodgers vs. Tampa Yankees triple-header that went until 2:11am and featured a 3+ hour rain-delay in the middle of game 2. (game 1 was actually just the completion of a suspended game from a couple days before and only lasted a couple innings). |

1993, Candlestick Park. The Giants had scored 4 runs in the 8th inning to tie the game at 5 off Marlin's closer Bryan Harvey. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, Robby Thompson jacks a 2-2 fastball from Harvey into the left field bleachers for the win. [/ QUOTE ] <3 Candlestick and Thompson, Clark, Williams. |

Mickey Mantle lines a home run, batting left-handed, over the 467 sign in left-center in Yankee Stadium. Ball rockets out. But that was not the exciting at bat. Next time up, oh-and-two, he bunts for a base hit. [/ QUOTE ] Nice nomination. Reminds me of the kid in Bad News Bears who sneaks down a bunt-single by telling the catcher he's going to hit a HR. I believe he said, "This one's for Allah. And it's going way out there sucka." THAT was an awesome at-bat. As well as the geeky kid in the glasses actually fouling one off to keep the rally going. Great great at-bats by those guys. |

Is Cora's at-bat believed to be the most fouls in a single AB?
I probably just imagined the whole Al Oliver thing. |

Re: Describe some of the most exciting at-bats you\'ve witnessed.
Most exicting at bat witnessed live:
1987, Giants vs. Astros, in a key game for S.F. Candlestick Park Giants enter the ninth down one run. Candy Maldonado hits a home run to left center to tie it, I jumped down and nearly got the ball but someone just beat me to it. Great at bat.. but this one is it, even better. The very next batter is Will Clark. He hits an upper deck shot to right center, probably the longest homer of his career and gives the Giants a walk off victory. Upper deck shots to right at Candlestick were very rare. That win helped to propel the Giants to winning the N.L west. Also witnessed live: Will Clark Singling up the middle off Mitch Williams in the bottom of the 8th with two outs and the bases loaded to break a 1-1 tie to beat the Cubs in the 1989 NLCS. Will Clark went off in that series, batted .650 with 8 RBI's and two homers off Maddux. On TV: Of course Kirk Gibson off Eck with his one legged home run, nothing can top that one. Again off Mitch Williams, Joe Carters walk off to win the the 1993 world series in game 6. |

Re: Describe some of the most exciting at-bats you\'ve witnessed.
Glenallen Hill repeatedly steps out of the batter's box. The pitcher (?) gets tired of it and fires a strike while Glenallen is out of the box. Hill dives into the box and takes a wild swing at it and winds up with a base hit.
