Default Coaching via AIM -- is this legal?

A friend of mine has asked me to help him learn how to play SnG's. Is it legal to observe his table and give him advice via AIM? Ethical?

Legal meaning within the T&Cs of a site? I doubt it. If you want to stay on the ethical side, discuss the hand after it takes place, not during. But as others said, people do it.

have him print out the hand histories for you to go over at a later tim e so you can make notes for him. But it is not proper IMHO to help during a sitngo.

I don't see what's wrong with it (ethically) so long as the person you're chatting with is not on the same table.

Is one player to a hand a rule on most sites? I know in a B&M this would be totally unacceptable, but I was thinking (going by memoery so I mgiht be completely wrong) that Poker Stars was on record as not ahving one player to a ahnd since it was unenforcable anyway.

It's not acceptable to get advice during a hand in live play so why would it be okay online?

It's also not acceptable to play live wearing just your underwear.

It's also acceptable to have your wife rooting you on during a poker tourney, but it's not acceptable to hire a skanky hooker to sit in the crowd and root you on.

Go figure.
