Default Re: Coaching via AIM -- is this legal?

I sweat people all the time. I don't tell them how to play during the hand though. Not because I consider it unethical, but because it's ineffective at teaching people how to play. If I'm going to tell them how to play, they should just watch me play.

In general, a much more effective way to teach people to play over IM would involve:

-watching them play a hand
-Asking them why they make a certain play
-Telling them how you would play the hand and why
-Discussing the difference between what they did and why and what you would have done and why.

There is a swedish site that has pros and such that gives out live coachning through AIM/MSN/Skype for free. All you have to do is sign up as under them on some site and start to play.

pretty nifty idea.

Completely acceptable. Not at all against any rules or unethical in any way. Even if it's phil ivey sweating you and telling you what to do, as long as he is not at the same table or in some situations MTT.

This is no different than your friend physically standing in back of you and watching you play, which I wouldn't have a problem with.

From one side it should ideally be only one player to a hand but I know for many recreationally players this is part of what makes online poker fun (buying in in the big sunday together etc.) so I think it should be accepted.

Last time I was at a casino, my friend wasnt allowed to stand behind me and tell me exactly what to do and why.

Edit: FWIW, I think its ok to coach/be coached online. Online poker and B&M poker have their differences. I believe this is one advantage that Online poker has over B&M when it comes to noobs learning the game.
