HUSNGs -- SB Raise Sizes

Say you've got 1500 chips during Level 2. You're the SB and elect to raise.

Option 1: Raise to 60. I've seen a lot of very successful players minraise and they do it very well. I've seen whahahah do this in a $5k. Can you explain why you chose to do this against that Tereken fella?

Option 2: Raise to 75. I've been experimenting with this rather than to 90. I find a lot of players will treat it the same as raising to 90, plus when the blinds go to 25/50 you can raise to 125 more liberally, which can be very profitable. On the flop, the pot will be 150 and you can bet 90 as a c-bet.

Option 3. Raise 3x. Pretty standard among players. Pot will be 180 on the flop, a c-bet will usually be 90 or 120.

Option 4: Raise 4x. I don't see many profitable players doing this. I generally see it as inflating the pot too much and making your life very difficult postflop. The pot on the flop will be 240 and you have to bet 120 to 180 to c-bet.

What's your choice and why?

Are you trying to find out exactly how everybody plays in every single situation Nicho? You're posting a wide variety of hands and general situations lately, not a bad thing though. Most of these threads I find are very good for the forum.

I find that players either treat the min raise as a 3x bet or play the same range as they would from SB. The same applies to the 2.5x bet. My usage of these varies a lot depending on the villain.

I haven't found much use for the 4x bet. I don't use this much except with low PP vs. loose players where I really want their blind and really don't want to see a flop.

I think there should be more emphasis on post-flop play because that it where most of your value comes from . But since we're on this topic I'll say a few things .

1)Making a 2X raise is good against a re-raise or fold type of player . When he re-raises you , then you lose a bit less if you decide to fold .

Another advantage is that some players think that if you give them 3:1 then they should call with any two cards . You become the beneficiary of their mistakes if they call with any two .

If your opponent would call with inferior hands to yours , then you should increase the size of your raises . If I have a-8 and my opponent will call any raise with a wide range of hands , then I'd probably increase the size of my raises just enough so that he would call .

Good post. Its hard vs an aggro postflop player who calls minraises preflop, thats why I generally stay away from it.

BB checks, Hero bets t45, BB folds.

Final Pot: t90

Kinda straying with this i think, but how do you guys treat a minraise? I usually think along the lines of: "lOl donk, giving me 3-to-1, ez call with 63o" but I guess I should have some sort of postflop plan in mind as I go, as I often find myself hitting thirdpair and thinking that its good, putting him on AK ldo.

Maybe abit to general question, but I think its a leak that I have.

I suck at minraisers too. I think you can call with a wide range, but dont get trapped postflop when you have bottom pair and your opponent keeps making small bets.

So we play a kindoff "fit good or fold" style. Seems right considering we are OOP. Offcourse situation dependant, as everything is [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

yeah, if you wanted to have a punchline that explains OOP play this isnt far off.

Im 20/10 in the BB and I dont feel that Im giving up anything. About now Im starting to work on widening my 3bets. Not loosening up, but playing thos 20% more aggressively pf.
