I never know what to do here... 88 on a low-mid rag board OOP (NL50)
BB is unknown, MP is 26/6/1. I'm never sure what the best line is in these spots.

Hero fires again, $6 ... thats kind of the best board for 88,(save for a set) any lower cards tend to leave str8 draws, no?

I value bet ~$5 and usually check behind turn.
edit: or if button calls, check turn and call around half pot. |

My thoughts were that the pot is growing, Im sandwiched between two unpredictable players, and a lot of hands are going to call a $5 bet here leaving me unsure what the hell is going on in a really big pot. Valid concerns?

[/ QUOTE ] mmmmmmm Just my opinion, but on THIS good board for 88, I just cant see checking here as a good move? thing is if you check BTN could make a stupid bet with a hand that you beat, making it diffcult, if BTN checks too and an A, K, Q flops, again whats your play? you gotta bet $6 here, I would be very suprised if both your Opps call the $6 on this raggedy board, I would then re-evaluate. |

[/ QUOTE ] Sure but experience tells me if you make a normal bet on this flop you'll win the pot right there often enough to be profitable even if every time you get called you give up and fold to further action. |

I usualy CB to 5.50$ it`s a good flop for you. Button either hit the flop hard or has to fold IMO.

i think you're ahead here, but not by a lot and it's going to get worse with each street and you don't have position.
since you were utg, your opponents hands are probably weighted more towards PPs, A9+, and maybe SCs than they are towards dominated hands such as KJ/QT. i think you have to bet here. however, betting is not going to give you alot of information if you get a call because of the slightly coordinated flop and because sets, low PPs, and 9x/5x could all call on that flop (since there is no ace or broadways). So turn, if you get a call is going to be tricky and I would just check the turn. |
