Default Poker in Germany

Hi

I'm a Brit moving to Germany next week (in the Army). I am having trouble finding casino's or cardrooms in the country that spread NLH. Does anybody know of any?

I will be living in Bielefeld, so will be 50km away from Dortmund. I played in the EPT there but have been told that poker is not actually all that regular there. So I'm looking to widen my choices.

Initially I am willing to travel about 80km for a game, but more if the games are juicy! I mainly play MTT's, but would be interested in cash action if there is any about...

Many thanks (similar post on the German board but its been translated using an online translator. So god knows what it actually says!!!)

Check out Holland Casino's website. they have casino's throughout The Netherlands. I've played in the Amsterdam casino and had a great time. Might be a little far, but worth a weekend trip. Stay at the Marriott and you're right across the street from the casino. Search the brick and mortar forum for "amsterdam" in the subject, I just posted some info on it last week.

OK, I usually just lurk around here, but I guess I can actually contribute something useful here.

I am from Germany (not near Bielefeld, though) and have to admit that finding a good live poker game is really tough.

The casino in Hohensyburg/Dortmund is probably your only choice. Their website says they spread Hold'em, Omaha and 7 Card Stud regularly. But the only thing they seem to spread daily is 5/10 Limit (presumably Texas Hold'em) which is also the lowest stakes they offer.
Only on weekends do they spread NLHE with two 5€ blinds and a ridiculus MAX buy-in of 250€...
They seem to also offer some spread limit and mixed games as well a "high stakes" NLHE in a seperated room for which you would have to reserve seats before hand...?

They have MTTs every Sunday usually 100€ Rebuys with max 100 players and on some sundays they change to Omaha or NLHE Freezeouts with 250€+ Buy-Ins.
Bi-Monthly they have tourney-"events" with 4-5 days of multiple tourneys.

Hope that helps.

PS: If Bielefeld or Dortmund are anything like Berlin (where I'm from) pokerwise there should be a bunch of underground card clubs around somewhere...

EDIT to add: YOur post in the German forum is very amusing but probably won't get more than a "lol" for an answer, I'd guess... The machine translated "Poker" with the german word for a poker used at a fireplace to poke around the ash.

Wow thanks guys. I figured poker was hard to find out there.

I found the cash games at the ept v juicy but a little daft in some of the local rules. But I'll have to adapt. A trip to holland may be the answer if I can't trawl up some undergroud joints...

To poke fire places naturally...

lol

Thanks again

...finally i understood it! That's what the "feuerhaken" is about. Thx

Nearest Casino to Bielefeld is Bad Oeynhausen, around 40 km.
