Default Firepay cutting off Canadians.

Just got this email from them.

"Effective February 21, 2007, FirePay (www.firepay.com) will no longer allow Canadian consumer payments to online gambling merchants.

Effective February 28, 2007, FirePay (www.firepay.com) will no longer allow Canadian consumers to receive payments from online gambling merchants.

All Canadian FirePay account holders will continue to be able to make purchases and receive payments from non-gambling online merchants, as well as to "Deposit From" and "Withdraw To" their Canadian bank account."

Anyone know what this is all about?

Not exactly.

He's asking why the hell.

There is no regulation behind the move.

I think I know why. Exhibit A:
"We are sorry to inform you that Firepay will, due to an official policy by Optimal Payments, from February 21, 2007, no longer be available for Canadian users."

Exhibit B:
"Optimal Payments is the payment processing subsidiary of Optimal Group Inc., a NASDAQ-listed company (OPMR) with over $6.5 billion in worldwide processing annually."

No I don't. But it still seems to be pretty concerning. What could possibly be their reasoning for this? They aren't just letting go of all that business for no reason.

Hmm...Firepay was the first to exit the U.S. market, around Oct 13th...

Could they once again be setting a precedent.

It definetely is NOT a good sign for online gaming.
