Peyton Manning, Greatest QB of all time?

Young ran for 4,239 yards and 43 TDs. Dan Marino ran for 87 yards. Joe Montana had 1676 rushing yards and 20 TDs. Despite being one of the best running QBs of all time, Steve Young might have been the best quarterback in NFL history judged solely on his passing statistics.

As far as Brady not having good WR targets around him, its not like he magically gets the ball to them. The guys get open. Now, you can say, well maybe he gets it into tighter places, but Id be willing to bet that Manning can throw/read/get it into tighter places than Brady. The only argument that you can get as far as WRs go is that Manning's WRs can go deeper than Brady's, and Ill buy that, but that only accounts for like 2-3 passes a game.

You do realize that rushing yards for a QB aren't very important?

Young's case rests on his redonk QB ratings and arm. Not on the fact he's an amazing runner. Fek. Most of the people in the world don't even know the best rushing QB with the name Young isn't Vince.

It seems to me that it affects every single play. All season, opposing safeties have played so far back that Manning has been able to dink them to death.

I concede that, but the fact remains that the receivers get open for Brady. Its not like he throws a magic bullet. And I think that any throw/read that Brady makes Manning could make the same throw, and maybe even fit it tighter. So I think the WR argument is moot.

Most of Young's value came from passing. He added value as a rusher. Both must be considered.

so you're saying it doesn't matter if 1 guy has better WR's than the other guy?

as an aside, you should be watching Americas Game: The Super Bowl on the NFL Network. most guys here probably don't remember the 89 Niners, but this team showed how effective great WR's could be. in 1 game, John Taylor TWICE got 5 yard slants and went 90+ yards to score a TD. and this was against a good team! Jerry Rice had many similar plays, catching a 5 yard slant and going 40 or 50 yards for a TD.

Marvin Harrison caught a completely ridiculous TD pass in the regular season vs the Pats this year, something no Patriot WR was capable of.
