Fine, I might be overly optimistic about Kubel and Bartlett, but they have to project at least as league average hitters at their respective positions.

Kubel:
Minor league career: .320/.388/.499
07 2nd half: .303/.379/.511, 23bb, 33k

Bartlett:
Minor league career: .297/.363/.415
06: .309/.367/.393
07, 2nd half: .277/.343/.405

I wouldn't consider Buscher to be a "prospect." I'd prefer it if he wasn't starting. I only mentioned him because I think he could be a replacement level hitter at third base. That is a 30 run improvement over this year... which is 3/4 of the way to making up the offense lost by Hunter's departure.

Yeah, you make a good point about having anybody but Punto there. The problem is that this year's team wasn't good enough, and scrambling to make up pieces of Hunter's production just won't be enough to bang in the AL central...so dealing Santana as early as possible makes a ton of sense.

Oh, to be clear, as a big Twins fan I am fine with them trading him this offseason.

I was just disagreeing with your comment that they would be delusional to think they have a shot at competing next year. Especially since their payroll without Hunter (but including Santana) will only be ~$50million so they should have 20+ million available to spend this offseason.
