Baseball trivia
My baseball-fan friends and i enjoy shooting trivia back and forth, often via email, txt messages, and IM, as well as when we're hanging out. i thought i'd share some of my favroites, and i'd like to hear some of your best stumpers.
of course, nothing terribly obscure tyvm, though we're all statheads (one is a SABR member) and dedicated enthusiasts... here are some classics (easy ones to start): 1: what is the fewest number of batters a pitcher can face and still get credit for a CG? (from BJ's HBA) 2: how many different ways may a batter get on base (all scored differently- i think the answer is nine, but can you name them all? also, i have a cheap tenth way)? 3: which three active ML teams have been based in three different cities (post 1900 the LA angels of A don't count)? 4, my current fav: only one member of the 500hr club has stolen home 10x, who?(heard on radio- KJR 950 seattle- last week) ...you can use the net to answer these, but what's the fun in that? gimmie some! links appreciated, too. |

Re: Baseball trivia
(1) My guess for is 12. Home team's pitcher in a 4.5 inning game.
(2) Add catcher's interference. (3) Atlanta is one of them. |

Re: Baseball trivia
For 2, what about when you hit the ball and it hits a runner?

Re: Baseball trivia
My first guess for #4 would be Bonds but I doubt that's correct.

3) A's and Braves ?? [/ QUOTE ] The third is the Orioles.... although the Angels have played in Los Angeles, California, Anaheim, and Los Angeles of Anaheim. |

Re: Baseball trivia
1) i think is 13. The visiting pitcher, in a 5 inning game (home team doesn't bat in bottom of 5 because they are ahead). They can only be ahead if they've scored a run. 1 runner crossed the plate, 12 got out, 13 batters total.
2) according to MLB HOF, there are 23 ways. No, I'm not kidding. Sports Illustrated and ESPN the Mag both did a bit on this a few years ago. Many are obscure like, a batter gets on via a conventional way (basehit), game gets suspended, that batter gets traded, and a replacement runner takes over for him. 3) Atlanta was the only one I was sure of, but A's could have been. Were the pilots somebody before the pilots? 4) I have no idea..I would guess Mays just because he was fast, and I believe he played in an era when home was stolen more frequently. Josh |

(2) Add catcher's interference. [/ QUOTE ] This is scored an error so it is not a "seperate" way to reach base. |

1: what is the fewest number of batters a pitcher can face and still get credit for a CG? (from BJ's HBA) I think it is either 12 or 13. I believe 4 innings is the required amount for a game to count, but I forget if it is AT LEAST 4 or more than 4. 2: how many different ways may a batter get on base (all scored differently- i think the answer is nine, but can you name them all? also, i have a cheap tenth way)? BB HBP H Dropped 3rd Strike Error Fielders Choice Catcher Interference Pinch Runner Balk with the bases empty? 3: which three active ML teams have been based in three different cities (post 1900 the LA angels of A don't count)? The Braves I think are one, Boston, Miluakee, and Atlanta... And I think the A's are another, KC, Phillie, and Oakland But I dont know the third 4, my current fav: only one member of the 500hr club has stolen home 10x, who?(heard on radio- KJR 950 seattle- last week) I'm going to guess Mays or Bonds, the two speedsters of the 500 club [/ QUOTE ] |
