You will either lose your job or your gf or this challenge. Why don't you set a challenge of getting a life instead?

I just finished a similar challenge for February. I work full time. I challeneged myself to play 30,000 hands in 30 days.

- I came up about 5,000 hands shy
- I didn't have fun playing poker
- My expected win rate was 2BB/100. My actually win rate was -0.06 BB/100.

Playing about 17,000 hands in the past 2 months, 40,000 hands in 1 month is a huge increase. It seems easy at first because it really doesn't take that long to knock out 1000-1500 hands when playing 6-8 tables. However, when you get to about day 15, you're not going to want to even sit down at the poker tables anymore.

I would seriously drop this challenge down to about 1/2 (20,000 hands).

IMO, making a hand count minimum is like making a minimum win for a session. It forces you to play non-quality hours.

Play as many hands as you can. I want 30k hands this month but last night I just did not feel like playing, so I didn't.

Challenges fail, if you dont log that many hands its becuase you dont have the time or the will to play poker for the long because grinding gets boring.

Challenges won't force you to play.

did i tell you i was on a 15 000 hand challenge?

You can do this. I've played 75K a month this year for a wsop promotion and plan on keeping up that pace through May. I have a job (cushy prof gig), a wife, and 2 kids. Daytime is for the family. I get about 6hrs sleep a night which is fine for me. I play around 2.5K hands a night 4-7 tabling. My win rate is only about .5bb/100 but the rakeback is nice.

hahahahaha... That's why I haven't really posted in goals threads. It's ironic that my first goals post is to hit 40k hands this month. I'll hit 30k like usual and have dreams of mikedyson brand donuts.

I don't see how forcing yourself to play x number of hands will do more good than harm.
<insert mandatory sample size comment here>
If you can do 2.3BB/100 without any table selection you should move up, rather than play more hands at the current limit (you are after highest $/hr, right?).
If you exercise good table selection now, it will be very difficult to maintain that because the 'need' to get those hands in will compromise your judgement.
You'll play more when you are tired, and as a result make bad decisions more often. You'll be tired more often, and review your play less.
If you are doing it to find your maximum comfortable hands/day/week/month, why not drop down to 2/4 or even 1/2 where your edge is bigger, and the mistakes cost less?

Trying to 'force' a certain amount of money out of speculative endeavors, whether it be poker or the stock market, is the surest way to lose money.

i have had 3 hour sessions of 8 tabling have times out about once an hour at the very most

I'm impressed that anyone can profitably eight table six max for any period of time. To play 8 turbo tables is amazing to me. I'm pushing my luck if I three table and one of them is a turbo. Good luck. I would just suggest that if you find yourself not able to meet your original timetable, adjust the timetable. No harm done.

thanks for the good responses, glad to get them it really does help

i understand what everyone is saying in one way or another

the point of a goal of 40,000 hands, was a number that could generate a income of 4800$ at 2.0bb/100

i wanted to make close to $5000 in one month of 3/6. My friend told me it was impossible, so pretty much thats the purpose of this.

As for moving up limits, I currently play 5/10 but only 4 tables, which has been profitable but not as profitable just yet.

Which is why im moving to more tables rather than a higher limit. Most comfortably I play 6 turbos and 2 normal 6max 3/6 tables. I can manage these easily, while generating 1000 hands an hour almost.

So all in all, it does seem there is some doubt of the 40k hands being done, or let alone of my quality staying while doing it. I have adjusted my goal just slightly. My goal now is still to obtain the 40k hands in a month (1300 hands a day) and if I am unable to make it to the 1300 I would like to have a win rate of 2.0bb/100 of 1333 hands, so which would be 160$.

Yesterday I couldnt get much time in, I made it to 500 hands was at 8.0bb/100 hands and decided to call it a day cause A) I had appointments, and B) with this new added factor I have added it equals to the 1300 hands @2.0bb/100

All in all I will like to have reached my goal of 40k hands by April first, or else the 4800$ profit.

Ill post again next week with some update

Some people may not agree with my strategies, but lets see how it goes!
