Royals - in each game
What are the odds of making a royal flush in each of the following games? given that you play every possibility all the way through the hand.
5-stud: 7-stud: Omaha: Holdem: others? I've been playing poker for about 5 years and I've had 7 or 8 royals. recently, I've been playing more O and I've hit two royals in the past few months. I'm thinking that O will have a significantly greater chance to make one. And I'm just curious for the stud games. Thanks. |

Re: Royals - in each game
The odds are the same for every 5 card game and for every 7 card game. You may notice more in Omaha because you're playing more suited broadway hands.
5 card games: 4 ways, 2598960 hands = 649739:1 or 0.00000154% 7 card games: 4324 ways, 133784560 hands = 30939:1 or 0.0000323% |

Re: Royals - in each game
5 card stud: 4 / (52 choose 5) = P
7 card stud: (7 choose 5) * 4 / (52 choose 5) = 21P Omaha: (4 choose 2) * (5 choose 3) * 4 / (52 choose 5) = 60P Hold'em is a 7 card game, and the probability that your best 5 card hand is a royal flush is the same as in 7 card stud. However, of the 21 ways to select 5 cards from 7, 1 will be a royal flush on the board (0 hole cards), 10 will use 1 hole card, and 10 will use both hole cards. Some people would not give full credit for a royal flush on the board. If you count the cases where you use only 1 hole card in Hold'em, royal flushes are about 3 times as likely (per hand) in Omaha. If you only count the times you use both hole cards, royal flushes are 6 times as likely in Omaha. |
