Re: Help Me Build An Album Collection Part B
Not essential but Blind Faith is a good album that should be considered (it is panned mostly because it pales in comparison to the rest of Clapton's work)
Buffalo Springfield - Greatest Hits should probably be sufficient Blood, Sweat, and Tears - Blood Sweat and Tears |

Re: Help Me Build An Album Collection Part B
B is a very good letter for music. Here are the B artists/albums that are on my 2 GB ipod:
Black Sabbath: Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Volume 4. I would recommend adding anything before the last two Ozzy albums; it's all very good. Seriously, these guys invented heavy metal. Bauhaus: Mask I'm not sure if this is the best album to recommend; it's just the only one I have. I've found Bauhaus hit and miss, and did not like their greatest hits compilation. ymmv Beyond Possession: Repossessed The complete discography of a Calgary thrash band that toured with Metallica and whose poster is seen in the background of a famous Kurt Cobain picture. Sadly, they never made it big. If you like thrash metal this is definitely worth the trouble of tracking down. Bjork: Vespertine I am a huge Bjork fan and cannot believe she has not yet been mentioned. I think this is her best album; it is slightly choral in its influence and very relaxing and melodic. Her other albums (which I own most of and enjoy) are eclectic, and I encourage you to try them even if you don't like this one. The singles are generally representative so just try one from each album at first if you're wary. (The) Blackouts: History in Reverse This is a complete discography from the Seattle band whose biggest claim to fame is that Paul Barker of Ministry was previously a member. That isn't to marginalise them or even compare them to Ministry, but just to give an idea of the calibre of the artists. This is post punk or pre grunge depending on how you look at it, but no matter what it is a dark and moving album reminiscent of Joy Division without being derivative. Brilliant: Kiss the Lips of Life This gets critically panned, but I think the problem is that people are expecting something that a pre-KLF Jimmy Cauty couldn't yet deliver in the early '80s. Then again, even Bill Drummond (their manager and other half of The KLF) hates it. Personally I think that if you strip the preconception from your mind you will enjoy the poppy nature. Just don't expect more. Like I said, B is a good letter - I may add more after I check my collection at home tonight. |
