Avatars definitely have an effect on me. Often, when I see a long-timer change their avatar I'll be like "Whoa, that doesn't fit him at all". But it likely does, it just doesn't fit my misconstrued perception of who they were prior.

Also, you can always tell who the young kids are when you see lame avatars of chicks or whatever.

People with blinking/flashing avatars need to die. Sometimes it's difficult to even read a page when all you see out the corner of your eye is blinking of some dumb-ass's obnoxious avatar.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't understand all the hate for hot chicks in avatars. I can understand someone being offended by these avatars, and if someone honestly wanted me to change mine I would. What I don't get is how people just assume that the poster is a frat boy or a jerk or whatever

I don't even remember my old avatars

I remember liking the avatar you had before the bunny/monster/whatever things attacking that gentleman avatar.

No clue what it was

I tend to try to figure out who the people are behind that avatar.

I thought it was best I put up a self-portrait but with a fake beard so people won't constantly ask for autographs and stuff.

I have at least 15 pms in my mailbox asking who is in my avatar.

I have posters tell me at least once a month they recognize me because of my avatar.

Shameless self-promotion? Yea. But you are an idiot if you think it doesn't make a difference in peoples memories.

I wish I could could take credit for my avatar, but it was all Stuey. I just selected the clip. Like someone said upthread, I'll skip through long posts and just look for a familiar avatar, because I know I'll want to read what they said (assuming I like this poster, and I like everyone. Well, almost everyone, but I digress...)

I'm not sure what effect my avatar has the credibility or gravitas of my posts, but I have received a couple PMs and comments saying that GOB's chicken dance has brought more than a couple smiles to the faces of fellow Arrested Development fans. So I guess mission accomplished.

What's wrong with a self-portrait?
