Meh, I was just being a nit. WAR are actually worth (on average) something like $2.5m I think. I would consider someone in the range of 2-3WAR (total) to be considered average. That means the fair value of an "average" player really is less (or maybe right around) $9m.

Rockies and Yorvit Torrealba agree to a deal. Two years + a mutual 3rd year option, total value around $7m, which is roughly what they were offering in first place. Don't know if the $7m includes buyout on the mutual option. Deal is pending a physical.
Matt Herges agrees to a one year deal with a 2nd year club option, also with the Rox. Hardly household names, but good deals for the money, given their roles on the club. I know Yorvit's pretty weak offensively, and throwing out runners, but with guys like Jimenez and Morales, it may be more key having a receiver you can trust, than to have one who will hit 5-6 more dingers, like Barrett. |
