Re: NL 10 - AK vs mid stack, call and see flop or push?
His raise of almost half his stack is basically putting him all in. You're going to miss the flop the majority of the time, so calling then folding when you miss isn't a great move IMO. I think pushing and maximizing your equity in the pot is best.
.55 + 3.80 = 4.35 It's 3.35 for you to call, so you're getting 4.35:3.35 or 1.3:1. That means you have to be better than 43% against his range for calling to be profitable. You are about 40% against a range of AKo/s, 10+, so if his range is wider than that (maybe AQs, 99), then pushing is profitable. Hope this helps. friedace |

Ok I did go with the push because he had a short stack, thanks for pointing out the math! Ill continue doin this move. Against a stack where I wouldnt be gettin such equity would a call be more profitable?

If he was deep I'd consider his range and your image a lot and then decide what to do. I mean if you call a 3-bet from a deeper villain and miss the flop then it sucks, and if the flop is ace-high then you get little action. So IMO a call wouldn't be ideal then either. |

Definitely putting him all in. If you just flat call and air-ball the flop, you'll have a hard time calling a shove.
