Why do casinos (both live and online) want props?

[/ QUOTE ]

small online poker sites and live casino have a lot of competition.Thats why they hire props to keep games going so customers wont go somewhere else to play.

host poker player (my current position)- I can move to any game that i want, if am playing in a game that has bunch of rocks and their is a waiting list then i just give up my seat and move to a better game. i also contact the regs and let them know about certain promotions that were having. I absolute love my job!

[/ QUOTE ]

What is a casino's motive for having such a position? Seems like once the game fills there would be no reason to have a prop, unless I am completely missing the point of a prop...

Also, I don't remember where I saw this, but I have heard that sometimes props aren't allowed to check raise... Are you bound by any rules like this?

what casinos actually hire props?

every single one ive asked denies that they use them, except the dumpy small rooms in AC that i happened to walk through.

(and what does it work out to as an hourly rate)

[/ QUOTE ]

I live in l.a area and most casinos down here hire props .. so i wont know how it is anywhere else.

how did you get a position? ive heard u have to know someone in floor well and get in with them, is this true? what is your hourly rate? what games are you required to play online?

[/ QUOTE ]

No that is not true.. just ask to see the prop manager and ask if their is any positions open. to answer your second questions.. online i would play small stakes such as 2/4 and 3/6 limit and 5/1 and 1/2 nl.. and have more flexibility of game selection to extent.

i would get paid by rake back which was never less then 100 percent or i would get 10 to 15 cents per hand dealt.

What is your win rate, standard deviation, and hours booked for the year as a poker-room prop? I assume you do this for the health benefits, am I correct?

[/ QUOTE ]

Am doing this for a lot of different reasons. first, i get a nice pay check every two weeks which is nice if am running bad, i also get benefits, my credit improves and its easier to get a loan for a home, since the lender knows that money is coming in every month. and the stakes that i play I make between 1500-2000 a week.. on average.

note- i've only been a live prop for 6months and a online prop for 3yrs.

Their are several type of props and you cant just be moved to my position off the street. you have to prove yourself as a movable or silent prop first. and if their is a position open as a host then apply for it.. i was just lucky that someone left, but i dont plan on leaving any time soon.

and to answer your second question.. you can do what ever you need to do to be a winning player. just dont make a seen or enemies at the table..beacuse you work their. i normally just put my head phones on and just play. not trying to make any friends or enemies since am their for one purpose to make money.

But I still don't understand how having a "host" type prop benefits the house... If anything it seems it would hurt them since they are A) Paying you, and B) losing a paying seat.

Casinos aren't in the business of losing money, so obv they are benefiting from the arrangement somehow?

I do a lot of things that benefits the casinos.. for example if am playing at a full 40/80 and their is 4 people in the waiting list for my game.. then i ask the players if they want to start a "must move table" if they all agree then i take some chips at the new table and play with them (since am a host i can leave my chips at one table and play at a other table) and wait until their are at least 6 people at the table not counting myself. and then move back to my original table. and thats how the casino makes money because a new table just started..

I also go to meetings to figure out ways to bring in more customers. such as tournaments with a nice add-on, cash give aways..ect

Thanks. Can you now tell me why your reading comprehension is so terrible? I was clearly mocking your misplaced, unoriginal, and uninteresting thread in both of my posts.

I used to be a silent prop, and I found it shocking how many props sat down with absolutely no experience, how many were losing players, etc. I guess the casino that I used to "work" at didn't have a screening. Do you ask basic questions, or is it play at your own risk?

I am not going to disclose how much the props got paid or what I got paid (fyi, silent props get paid less), but I can't imagine them living good on what they were getting paid. If you want to add more thoughts, feel free. Just something to move the discussion.

I always tell people that no more than 5% of players are winning players, do you agree with this?

A common argument against this is that a prop is among winning players. I always laugh at this.

What are some of the reasons you feel that losing prop continue their job?

How do you deal with losing props?

Do you ever pull them aside and say "hey, no offense...."

One prop I knew lost 2,000 BBs before he finally hung it up.
