Default Transfers to your brokerage

I've only ever used E*trade. It takes 5+ business days for the money to get to my brokerage account. I initiated my most recent transfer on 10/10, and I just found out it won't be available to trade until Friday 10/19. The money left my checking account on 10/11. This seems like way too long. Is this standard among other brokerages?

Schwab takes a day or two.

Interactive Brokers took 2-3 to get the money and then held it for another 4 business days. $!@#

I use Bank of America and transfer my funds electronically. They are available the next business day or if I need them the same day I just call and they credit my account immediately unless I transferred from my Wachovia credit line, then it takes the full day. Lately instead of using my BOA margin line I've used the Wachovia account since I get that money for prime minus .5%.
