Default Risk Analyst positions in consumer products, where do they go...

im just curious to see if anybody has experience in this type of role and/or knows where the career posibilities may lead from it.

basically it is a data analyst/policy implementation type role for a major global bank. the title is "risk analyst" or "risk manager" since i'd be repsonsible for digging into mortgage origination risk (consumer side), setting new policies to reduce risk to the loan portfolio, and monitoring those policies as well as adjusting them based on analysis.

it seems that there are a bunch of places this type of role can go that interest me (i.e. securitization, capital markets risk analyst etc.) but i'd like to hear from people if you've had some experience either in this type of role yourself, or if you've hired somebody from this type of role or just your general impressions fo what the role could do for a long term career.

it seems more and more now-a-days that CFOs, CEOs and the like come from this type of background. any thoughts?

thanks,
Barron
