Because all the basketball rims in America are already built at 10 feet. It would be a huge pain in the ass to have separate rims for men and women. Adjustable backboards suck and break easier. Most high schools have just one gym with rims that are not designed to change height.

Seriously. The one point OP tries to brush aside is frickin' huge. Driveways and playgrounds all across america have 10 foot rims. While good college gyms and pro arenas the height is probably simple to change, it's not in many, many places. It'd be a frickin' nightmare.

I'm not trying to "brush it aside". I realize this is a HUGE issue, but it doesn't really have anything to do with my question.

Lowering the rim isn't going to change women's overall jumping ability and hang time. The excitment of a dunk or alleyoop does not lie in the shot itself, but rather the shotmaker. Have you ever seen Shawn Bradley dunk? Could you possibly describe it as "exciting"?

[/ QUOTE ]

Butcho - here check this out, I think the Bradley reference is a good one:

This Is Not Exciting At All

It'd just be alot of that zzzzzzzz...

Yeah that was weak...but if the rim was 1 ft lower, she coulda put a lot more force into it. Maybe even a reverse jam!

if the rim were lower, women would obviously have increased relative leaping ability and hangtime

We managed to play with 8 foot rims when I was 8.

LOL at women dunking and having alley oops

its already a joke they get to play with a ball that weighs half as much

women want equal pay as the real stars yet they have it easier and they arent as athletic and nobody watches them play anyway

besides the womens world cup (soccer) i honestly cant think of a womens sporting event that draws massive crowds (that is a non olympic event)
