20/40 and 80 on the river

I have been invited to the big cash game in our area. The host has various games running most nights of the week. He provides dealers, drinks and food, with a max rake of $4. From what I hear this is a great game with lots of loose cash and is populated with mostly doctors lawyers and business owners. I've heard stories about insane action and huge swings associated with this game. The night that I am playing the game will be limit holdem 20/ 40/ and 80 on the river. The double big bet on the end is foreign to me, so I've been trying to wrap my chimp brain around it. Below are some ideas and adjustments I have come up with for this game. If anyone could CONSTRUCTIVELY add or detract from the thoughts below in a helpful manner this lowly chimp would greatly appreciate it.

Ive been thinking about this big bet on the river, the increased implied odds and how it will effect hand values.
My speculative hands and big/little suited cards should be playable with fewer callers (from LP as little as 2-3 with no raise and as little as 4 with a raise). On the flop I will be able to draw more liberaly with the increased implied odds. Slowplaying will be horrible in this game due to the fact that your opponents will have great implied odds to draw. The free card play should go way up in ev as well. Costly flop and turn mistakes are going to be compounded by the double big bet on the river. On the river bluffs and weak made hands could be very costly. B/F, B/R, and C/C need to be my main course of action. It would be really tough to bet call on the river in this game. (I rarely B/C on the end anyway)

I suck at limit but here goes. I think your hand strength requirements to continue after the flop have dropped (here is where implied odds are better), being able to checkraise the river has dropped and being able to bluff on the river has gone up.

As a final note, a mistake on the turn might be more costly if on the river you are folding to a bluff or calling a better hand.

As you stated thin value bets on the river can become very costly. This will be crowd dependent of course. If you find them willing to call on the river with anything then you might still bet. But if they're tricky and will try for bluff raises / value raises putting you in a bad spot be more willing to check / call river.

Try to size up your opponents quickly so you can get the most value from the big river bet.

And if the action is like you describe then you should be seeing lots of multi way pots giving you plenty of action to play some speculative hands in LP with or without that big bet. Don't be surprised to find some very loose preflop / flop action with lots of raises / capping. So along with the rest be prepared for some serious variance

At our local B&M, the 3/6 limit game is actually 3/6/12 (optional river bet). So, you can bet 6 or 12 on the river, or if someone bets 6 on the river, you can raise 6 or raise 12. I really like how it's changed the dynamic of that game.
