Default Pocket Jacks on the River.

I don't want to post too much but would like some feedback on this hand, mostly the 3 bet on the flop. I'm trying to clear out draws. Is this correct thinking or is this spewing with an overcard on board?

No reads..Just sat down at the table.

I would have made a c-bet on the flop. MP2 would probably have raised if he had AK or AQ.

As played after button raises the flop, I think you can safely fold. I suspect that Button probably either has Ax or better.

3-bet pre-flop fine. 3-bet on flop bad ;-). The "overcard" is only the most played overcard in the world (or was that the most overplayed card in the world?)

Bet the flop and fold to a raise.
If somebody just calls, I would probably check/fold the turn.

Betting the flop is purely a bet on the rare occasion that people called with garbage or that MP2 raised with pocket somethings. You are behind most of the time against 4 others. Don't cling to those jacks.

Ax is what I put him on after he called three bet, but I've been playing very tight and passive. Only way I new to find out for sure was 3-bet. Trying to aggessive up. I fold way too much.

I dont think that Ax is probably the best range to give MP2 for his pf raise. If he was positionally aware, I think that you could give him a range of something like AK-AT,A9s,A8s,KQ,KJs,TT-88.

Trying to play more agressively is fine, but I think that you need to be more selective for the situations when it may be appropriate to do this.

wow @ flop and turn.

The only way you can win this hand is to bet-3-bet the river to push him off AK... but I would prefer a c/r since that would get more money in when behind.

Preflop: Hero is SB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
UTG calls, MP calls, CO calls, 1 fold, Hero completes, BB raises, UTG calls, MP calls, CO calls, Hero calls.

Flop: (10 SB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players)
Hero checks, BB bets, UTG calls, MP calls, CO calls, Hero calls.

Turn: (7.50 BB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players)
Hero checks, BB bets, UTG calls, MP calls, CO calls, Hero raises, BB 3-bets, UTG calls, MP folds, CO folds, Hero caps, BB calls, UTG calls.

River: (21.50 BB) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players)
Hero bets, BB raises, UTG calls, Hero 3-bets, BB calls, UTG calls.

Final Pot: 30.50 BB

Results in white below:
Hero has 8s 7s (straight, eight high).
BB has Jd Jh (one pair, jacks).
UTG has Qd Qs (one pair, queens).
Outcome: Hero wins 30.50 BB.

Classic example of a spewfest where the opponents who are beat by Kx for the love of donkeys, are getting capped by me, who if they had watched the previous 25 hands where I played twice and won both before in showdowns.

This isn't a brag or anything, all I am suggesting is start looking at why others are playing the pot before you go like this in the hand.

Falling in love with pocket pairs that are clearly beat except by the greatest morons ever to play poker is likely an extremely expensive date.
