Default How to make that almost impossible decision....

I have a really good opportunity right in front of me. I've had a personal trainer for about 4 years now. 2 years straight, then 2 years off and on when I started college. I live in Cincinnati with my parents, but attend Ohio State, and have a house up there with 10 other guys.

I gained some weight this past year, and came home to get back with my personal trainer to get it off. Come to find out, he has opened his OWN place (used to work at ballys) and is doing very very well.

On the side, I've been taking Muay Thai and brazilian jiu jitsu classes at an MMA school. My personal trainer is very interested in this and wants to expand his business.

While talking to him, I became very interested to. With the UFC, this is a huge money making opportunity:

I don't plan on dropping out of school, but it would work something like this...

I return to Columbus, take fall quarter classes, then transfer to cincinnati during the Winter quarter. Take Winter quarter off, get my personal training certification, and then reuturn to school for spring quarter.

We would then move into a newer building, get investments from my parents, take out loans, and open up a personal training/mma school together, as partners. This would allow me to continue through school and get my degree, but at the same time build up my own company, and make money.

At the same time, this is nearly an impossible decision for me, because my BEST friends are in Columbus. Granted it's only a 2 hour drive from where I'm at, I'm used to seeing these people daily, and don't know if I'm ready to give up some of my better friendships.....

I'm lost and don't really know where to turn...

You'd be hiring real jiu jitsu and MMA instructors right?

Honestly I'd finish school 1st.

Running a business while in school is a lot of work and will take up a lot of time that you should really be spending enjoying university and this doesn't sound like a once in a lifetime opportunity.

It depends what your priorities are and noone can answer this better than you, but to be very successful at business and university both you will have next to no free time.

I agree with ski, that this isn't the once in a lifetime kind of opportunity you should feel like you have to take. If you are really enjoying school and your friends there, you'll wish you had stayed after a couple years. The cliche about college being the best time of your life isn't a cliche for no reason. It is true for a lot of people.

1. Finish school.
2. Don't let your friends (or the idea of losing them) hold you back.
2a - They'll still be your friends.
2b - You'll make new ones.

So what exactly would you be doing as a partner?

It sounds like he just needs your parents money, couldnt you give that to him and still remain where you are for a couple years, then go work at the gym after that?

he has all the equipment we would need right now for the lifting part, and would allow me (after getting my certification) to use the equipment to train others and make my own money.

My parents money would come in when:
a) we need a bigger gym
b) we decide to open the mma school and get mats/bags/pads
