What you need is seam sealer not just waterproof spray. The tent is already waterproof, though when they sewed it together they put holes in the tent. That is what needs to be sealed against the rain. And you only have to seal the seams that are exposed (don't worry about the seams that are under the rain fly).

Practice setting up your tent in your backyard at home. Do it a couple of times, so you look like a pro.

My general advice is that you have confused camping with.....something else.

ipod (podcast of choice: Dan Carlin's Hardcore History)
book (book of choice: The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle)

peanut butter

many spare socks - Definitely, and lots of spare underwear/clothes. Its the secret to successful camping.
nail clippers - What for?
loaded semi-automatic handgun - Definitely not. Not only is it completely unnecessary but its illegal.
extra batteries

gun, bugspray, cell phone, battery-free radio, water, big knife, surgical tubing, tweezers & vaseline (ticks), a portable telescope (you'll actually be able to see the sky), a flashlight & lots of extra batteries, condoms (good as water bottles also), matches in a waterproof box, a lighter, whisky in a pocket flask, longjohns

as far as the tent, you just need the tent and the cover it comes with, and a plastic ground tarp to put under it, you can buy clear ones made for it. use seam sealer on the tent and boom, you're good.

otherwise, build a campfire and sit around it and cook meat and smores. matches, flashlights, meats, smore materials. done.

also, why is illegal to bring a gun camping?
