PSU upgrade?
I'm planning to install a GeForce 8600 GT into a dell inspiron 531 with its 305w psu. On the dell forums they don't think I need to upgrade the psu. Anyone have any thoughts on the subject?

Re: PSU upgrade?
Don't upgrade the PSU. Run kill-a-watt to see for yourself

Re: PSU upgrade?
What is the requirement for the card? I would imagine a number in the 8000's would require at least 350w. Changing them out isn't difficult depending on how your case is laid out.

Re: PSU upgrade?
I think its 350w but I'd have to check again. Here's a link to the discussion on the dell forum.

Re: PSU upgrade?
Here's a list of power requirements when using various graphics cards. I'm not sure what the system setup is. There is a big difference in power usage from 2D(poker playing) to 3D gaming.

Re: PSU upgrade?
Why wouldn't you upgrade the PSU? Is it too expensive? I don't see the point in trying to nickel and dime your machine power wise instead of just getting a new PSU.
