Flopped middle pair with gutshot but faced with a bet and a call.
This is from a live tournament (100 players approx.) so the information is my best guess.
Stacks Hero (Button) : 2,500 Player 1 (SB): 10,000 Player 2 (BB): 8,000 Blinds: 100-200. Reads: Both SB and BB have been active since the first level and I'm getting suspicious. Hand Dealt KQo. Folded to me. Limped on Button. Small blind calls, big blind checks. Flop A K J Rainbow. SB bets 300. BB calls. Hero ???. |

What's your plan when you limp on the button with KQ?

Raise pre-flop.
Puke flop. Shove flop. |

My plan is simply to play flops against these guys. They are aggressive but their preflop action has been hard to read. If I was up against one of them I would go all-in here (on the flop) without a thought. The call bothers me but I'm not sure if it should.

It also might mean "I have a str8, and don't mind an overcall." Shove, and hope it's not the latter of these. Or if it his, hit your str8 to chop. |

Re: Flopped middle pair with gutshot but faced with a bet and a call.
Sam T, you are bang on the money on this one. I know you guys don't always like to reveal the hands but in this case it leads into a much broader question which is vexing me. The SB had Jx. The BB had A5. This is where I get confused. The SB is hoping to win the pot with this bet but what is the BB hoping for with this call? Is he prepared to put in a lot of money with this hand? It seems like these guys are willing to get stuck in with any pair any kicker (not just in this hand). How do you play guys like this? Ok in a cash game you can sit back and wait to clean them out but when the blinds are rising....? Usually by the time I figure out which guys at the table are playing fast three of them are knocked out and one of them has all the chips. Online enough hands are dealt each level to be able to wait and hopefully double through them but in live tournaments the dealing is much slower and I'm frequently left scratching my head .
