Moe is 4 feet tall and 150 pounds. But don’t let his Napoleonic stature fool you. Like his fellow chimps, he is strong and aggressive with an upper body strength that could put all of my friends — and some of my enemies — to shame.

Chimps aren’t likely to tell you how much they can bench press, but in tests at the Bronx Zoo in 1924 a male chimpanzee using a dynamometer recorded a one-handed pull of 847 pounds. By comparison, a 165-pound zoo employee pulled 210. In dead lifts, chimps have been known to nonchalantly pump 600 pounds. In the wild, they routinely kill and gulp down much larger animals.

[/ QUOTE ]

Seems like their biceps/upper lat strength is more greatly emphasized than lower back strength (considering that they dwell in trees, it's easy to see why). I imagine that a chimp's bench press would be stronger than ours, but not as impressive as their "chin up" ability.

There'd have to be a top-down rehaul of the muscle generation processes, I believe.

It's not density as much as it is the makeup of the muscle fibers. Reconstituting the proteins may not be enough, you'd have to program for optimum growth structures. A Mr. Universe gets his muscle as dense as humanly possible and would still be tossed around by a chimp.

Had an odd thought about a former Mr. Universe. Was thinking of Schwarzenegger's bone structure in his forehead and went off on an odd tangent about Neanderthals more or less going extinct in the Jura Mountains. Might not amount to anything...
